RED & BLACK JUNIOR PLAYERS
The Red & Black Junior Players is an extracurricular activity for 5th & 6th grade students. Students learn about the different parts of a production (both onstage and off) and then audition for a part in the show. Students decide if they would like to try out for a speaking role (lines to memorize and/or a vocal solo) or an ensemble role (chorus member.) Additionally, there are many jobs for students who prefer not to be onstage.
The Red & Black Junior Players production begins in October and goes through the third week of February. Rehearsals are two days a week (usually on Mondays and Thursdays.) Miss Ryan creates monthly rehearsal calendars that clearly state who needs to be at what rehearsals, as not everyone is needed everyday.
The culmination of the Red & Black Junior Players experience is a live performance of a musical, complete with lights, sets, costumes, and, of course, music! The house is always packed and the burning question that follows is, "What show are we going to do next?!" The musicals are very successful and provide a positive and educational opportunity for musical growth
